Thanks to the generosity of local steelmaker ArcelorMittal Cleveland, for the second consecutive year Cleveland Metroparks eLCee2 Water Taxi will provide service to passengers free-of-charge, during normal business hours, for the 2018 season.
“ArcelorMittal Cleveland is pleased to partner with Cleveland Metroparks again this year to offer free rides on the eLCee2 water taxi. Our hope is that every person who boards the water taxi gains an appreciation for the unique asset that the Cuyahoga River is to our community – a working river serving the local economy, a place for sport and recreation, and a precious ecosystem we are all responsible for protecting,” said Mike Madar, vice president and general manager, ArcelorMittal Cleveland.
Now in its third season, the 26-foot canopied Crosby yacht provides a connection to/from the East and West Bank of The Flats, under the Main Avenue Bridge. The water taxi can accommodate 17 passengers and up to four bikes. The water taxi is ADA accessible and dog friendly.
With nearby trail connections, the water taxi provides guests greater access to recreational opportunities along the Cuyahoga River and Lake Erie.
“Cleveland Metroparks is constantly seeking opportunities to expand connections and enhance access to trails and green space. We want to thank ArcelorMittal for its partnership, which will allow guests to enjoy the water taxi and explore our lakefront,” said Cleveland Metroparks CEO Brian M. Zimmerman.
Thanks to ArcelorMittle’s centennial gift in 2017 that made the water taxi free, ridership last year totaled more than 47,000 – an increase of more than 50%.
